Accountability

As a church, we hold to the value of a plurality of elders whom reach consensus on decisions of church doctrine, direction and discipline. We also believe that every team has a leader, with Colton Moore taking the role of lead elder. This is done as a ‘first among equals’ rather than as a senior pastor with associate pastors.

As a new church plant we are diligently working to one day develop a team of elders, while following the wisdom of the Apostle Paul who instructs us to not be, “quick to appoint anyone as an elder.” (1 Tim. 5:22)

Until a plurality of elders can be established, the eldership team of our sending church, Restored L.A., will serve as an interim eldership team whom Colton is accountable to for all matters of church doctrine, direction, and discipline.

In addition, Restored West Valley is an autonomous church within the larger Restored Family of Churches, led by Andy Rogers - the Director of Church Health, Planting, and Partnership of the Restored Family of Churches.

Leadership Structure

  • The Bible clearly teaches that Jesus is the Head of the Church (Eph. 1:22–23, 4:15, 5:23). He is the One that we seek and follow as He continues to advance the movement that He started 2,000 years ago through His perfect life, substitutionary death and victorious resurrection.

After He ascended into heaven, He gave us His Spirit and established His Church to be led by qualified leaders.

  • Restored West Valley is an elder-led church that submits to the authority of the Bible. Scripture uses the Greek words “Presbuteros” (Elder) or “Episcopos” (overseer) to describe leaders in the church who execute God’s justice and government and administrates the affairs of the church.

    See Acts 20:17, 28; Titus 1:5,7; 1 Peter 5:1-2

  • This is the only other office mentioned in the scriptures regarding the local church (1 Tim 3:8, Phil. 1:1)

The Greek word for deacon is “diakonos,” which means servant or commissioned minister. A deacon is someone who ministers alongside elders.

This does not mean that deacons are to be the only ones who serve in the church body. Everyone in the church should share the servant heart of Christ. What it does mean though, is that deacons come alongside the elders to assist them in the pastoring of the church, freeing up the elders to focus on, “prayer and the ministry of the Word.” (Acts 6:1-8)

Deacons are commissioned servant-leaders who help care for God’s people, meet practical needs, and promote unity within the church body. They are to be tested, faithful, and character qualified 1 Tim. 3:8–13).

Our deacons exercise responsibility in areas of shepherding and care, worship leadership, community outreach, practical tasks, and benevolence to the needy.

  • We believe in the autonomy of the local church, in which the elders are the highest governing authority in that church, but we do not believe it is healthy or wise for a church to be independent.

As leaders we actively seek accountability and counsel from those with whom we have relationship and in whom we recognize an Ephesians 4 gifting of either apostle, prophet, pastor, teacher or evangelist.
